System requirements

The short version: MediaLab and DirectRT run on a 64-bit PC with Windows 10 or 11. The details below cover disk, activation, and a few notes for locked-down or offline labs.

The essentials

At a glance

Applies to both MediaLab and DirectRT.

Operating system
Windows 10 (version 1607 or later) or Windows 11. Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 are not supported.
Architecture
64-bit (x64) Windows.
Platform
Windows only — not available for macOS or Linux.
Install privileges
Administrator rights to install (per machine). Once installed, a standard user can run studies — and drop in a license file — without admin rights.
Internet
Needed only for license activation / your free trial, and (for DirectRT) to fetch the WebView2 component at install time if it isn’t already present. Not required to run studies afterward.
DirectRT · v2027

DirectRT specifics

The rebuilt DirectRT is self-contained — in most cases there’s nothing extra to install.

.NET runtime
Nothing to install. DirectRT ships self-contained — the .NET 8 runtime is bundled inside the app.
Edge WebView2 Runtime
Required for HTML stimuli, the Style Editor, and the IOTest tool. It’s preinstalled on Windows 11 and most Windows 10 machines; the recommended .exe installer adds it automatically if it’s missing (needs internet during install). Not needed for text-, image-, or video-only studies.
Disk space
About 300 MB.
License file
Activation places a license.lic into C:\ProgramData\Empirisoft\DirectRT. A standard user can put it there without admin rights.
Display
Designed around a 1024×768 logical layout; runs full-screen at your monitor’s native resolution.
Air-gapped or locked-down labs? The recommended .exe only needs internet at install time if WebView2 is missing. For fully offline machines, your IT team can use the .msi and preinstall the WebView2 runtime — or we can provide an installer with the runtime bundled in, so it installs with no network at all. Email us and we’ll sort it out.

MediaLab shares the same Windows 10/11 (64-bit) baseline above; see its readme for any program-specific notes.
