In the user guide, it says you can use skip patterns with scale responses but NOT with multiple response items. This has always been intentional because a subject could select multiple responses and MediaLab would not know which skip value to use.
There was a bug though (which we just found out about) which would allow you to use skip patterns with multiple response items if and only if the subject was using the keyboard (mouse would not work) and the option with the skip value was the last one chosen. Instead of eliminating this bug, it gave us the idea--why not allow skip patterns for multiple response items so long as only ONE response has been chosen.
So you can do this now--and it will work for both keyboard and mouse. To be super safe, you can combine this with the (r1-1) parameter in order to disallow multiple options from being selected, e.g., (p5,r1-1) for a 5-item multiple response question where one--and only one--option must be selected. That will consequently guarantee your skips to work.

Long (er) Variable Names. As of MediaLab v2006.1.10, the limit for variable names was increased from 7 to 12 characters. As of v2006.1.43, this was increased to 60 characters. Keep in mind though that some statistical packages and spreadsheet applications may still have difficulty working with longer variable names. Be sure to view and analyze some practice data before going too crazy with this feature.
Fixed a font problem that some users were having when trying to use non-English fonts in the Experiment Editor (e.g., not being able to use characters with accents). Reminder--you also need to set the character set under Preferences in the main MediaLab window in order for the Experiment Editor to also use that same set. If anyone is still having trouble with this, let us know.
