How does one capture values that are fractions in questions with a fill-in-the-blank format? I know how to capture decimals, but for my purposes, I need the values to be captured in fractions (e.g., 2/3, 1/2, etc.)
Thank you in advance.

I assume you mean by some other means than simply having them type "2/3", yes?
Actually, I want subjects to be able to enter fractions, such as 2/3.
However, if I enter fractions, the data set converts these into dates, such as 3-Feb.

Excel does this or SPSS?
Excel does this. Is there a way to prevent this and have Excel capture the data in the right way (i.e., 2/3, etc.)?

Would you mind posting a sample Excel data file that shows this?
Here is the sample data set. The problem is with the variable named "veto". Notice that the value under that column is 3-Feb, when it should be 2/3.
That's strange. May I see the que file that produced this data file?
The question is #26 (i.e., veto). The question file is enclosed.
Thanks,
Efren
Hmm. I just ran it and it seems to work fine here. Try running the attached revision (it's just shortened). When I ran it, it produced the dat file that is also included in the zip file. After you run it, take a look at the new data and see if it has the alternate format you've been seeing. You might want to delete the ioncluded data file first so that it creates one from scratch for you.
