Skipping based on previous responses DirectRT 2012 (case 15414)

    Hi,
I'd like to know whether trial 10, for example, can be skipped based on a participant's response to trial 5. Is it possible in DirectRT 2012?
To be more specific, I have 5 questions in my practice trials. If question 1 is answered incorrectly, it is repeated again. If it's answered incorrectly the second time, then question 2 is presented. Later, once a participant goes through all five questions, I want to present question 1 for the third time (or any of the 5 questions for that matter) if and only if it was answered incorrectly twice previously.
    Thank you in advance,
    Greg

Could you upload a copy of your input file(s)? I'd be happy to look at them.

    Hi Jason,
Attached is the input file with the practice trials. As you will see, on trial 4, if letter L (code 38) is pressed, a participant skips to trial 5. Otherwise, trial 4 continues and they have to press letter L again; after two mistakes they move on to trial 5 anyway. The key trials here are 9 through 13. I want trial 9 be displayed only if the participant made two mistakes on trial 4 - that is, he/she failed to press letter L on trial 4 twice in a row. However, if the participant did not make a mistake or made only one mistake, I want to skip trial 9. The same association would be between trial 5 and 10, 6 and 11, 7 and 12, as well as 8 and 13. I hope that makes sense.
Thank you in advance for your help.

If you first want the participants to go through trials 4-8 consecutively, then DirectRT will not be able to dictate any skipping or jumping for trials 9-13 based on the responses in trials 4-8. At this point in time, DirectRT cannot dictate jumping or skipping based on the responses from previous trials.

Thank you for your reply. This would definitely be a useful function to have in the future DirectRT. It would not necessarily be a Skip function, but possibly a Display function (in a similar way that Qualtrics differentiates between these two functions). That is, a particular trial is displayed only if a specific response is chosen on a previous trial.
