DirectRT audio clip play and reaction time (case 11628)

    marx_new.csvHello
I am attempting to have participants listen to a 5.5 min audio clip. They need to press a key to record RT to denote when a "character in the story behaves inappropriately." However, I need the clip to play through its entirety. I am also considering asking a second question which would require a second reaction time.

Before I am able to figure that out, I need to fix the primary problem: the audio will not play. The screen flickers black as if attempting to do something, but then "shuts down" immediately. No error code reported.

I just downloaded DT2012 to fix a separate problem and ultimately will embed this task within a larger Medialab experiment that includes multi questioannaires and Direct RT input files.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi DJ_Angelone.

In the input file named marx_new.csv you attached to your forum post, it appears that you named your sound file marx-16. Can you try renaming it without the -, something like mark16, and see if that works? Also, make sure to try using a sound file that is .wav format.

How did you create your .wav sound files? Sometimes people have had .wav files that did not automatically work well with DirectRT but found success when they created them through the latest version of Audacity. If you wish to try it, you can download a copy of it for free from this website: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Also, can you please try to run the sound.csv and dichotic.csv input files that came with DirectRT to see if they work or produce an error similar to the one we are dealing with now? You can find them on your computer in DirectRT > Samples > 5 - other features > 11 play sounds.

Finally, can you please send me a copy of the file named TrackPerformance.txt in the DirectRT folder? It may have some information about this error.

    Hi Jason
The WAV file was created by another researcher years ago. After reading some posts I used audacity to save it as a 16bit wav. If there is a private way to send it to you I can do so (given the proprietary nature of the file and since it is a bit explicit I would prefer to keep it off the support threads).

Both sample sound files work fine (it wasnt working the other day but I downloaded DT2012 and it now works--I am using a macbook pro with bootcamp to run windows)

I have attached the trackperformanace file as requested.

You can send your files directly to me at support@empirisoft.com. Could you also include a version of your input file with that email?
