Single or multiple key presses? (case 8615)

Hello, I was wondering if there is a way to accept either single or multiple key presses to advance a trial? Thank you.

    Hi Varia,

Could you please tell me which piece of software and/or hardware you are attempting to use for these key presses? Thanks!

Sorry, I was trying to use DirectRT, though I should have access to MediaLab as well.

    Varia,

No apologies needed! And it's quite simple to define any number of keypresses to advance from one stimulus to another in DirectRT. In the time column for the stimulus you want your participant to respond to simply type rt: followed by the numbers that correspond to the key or keys you wish DirectRT to recognize as valid key presses. You can find more information about this, including a list of key codes, in the Input Files > Time section of the DirectRT manual.

I was actually trying to find a way to get three combinations of two keys as valid input. For instance, the participant could press 'z' (44), '/' (53) or z & / (44 & 53) at the same time and have all be valid input.

I should probably also mention that the most current version I have access to (that I know of) is the 2010 version.

    varia,

No version of DirectRT has the capability to combine more than one key press into a single valid response. You can define as many single keys as valid responses as you like, but DirectRT can only record if a single predefined key is pressed.
