Perhaps a simpler way to allow participants to control a video presented to them is to use a Youtube video. Upload your stimulus video to youtube, and then use Youtube's "embed" option to include it in an html document of your creation.

That way, participants see your video free of other visual details or distractions that loading a full Youtube page would entail, but would still give them access to the ability to control the action of the video.
