Direct RT and Tablet (case 3121)

    Guys,
I am trying to conduct research in which I want to use a tablet as a response source ( instead of certain keys from the the keyboard). Specifically, the tablet records participants' writing as well as their reaction latencies. I am just wondering are there any ways that I could achieve this. Please kindly let me know. Thank you.

    MediaLab, yes; DirectRT perhaps

Hi. below are a some related posts from this forum on the use of touch screens via PC tablets.

Please let us know if you have made progress in this area. I suspect that it won't be long until many labs will include touch screens, and portable devices that are free of keyboards

Have the tablet abilities been updated?

We are looking at using MediaLab and DirectRT in a big study and would like to use tablets if possible. I have read some of the posts indicating that the programs were not yet compatible with touch screen technologies. Has this changed in recent years? We would be using PC tablets.

    Hi MLHabrat,

I will check with Blair about using MediaLab and DirectRT with PC-based tablets and let you know what I find out. Thanks for your patience!

    Sincerely,

Using the latest versions of MediaLab and DirectRT with a tablet running Windows 7 or 8 should work.

No similar programs for Macs immediately spring to mind. According to the Irfanview website, you should be able to use it with a Mac:

"There is no native-Mac version of IrfanView. However, you can use IrfanView in conjunction with Mac program like WineBottler/DARWINE. Take the ZIP version of IrfanView and unzip it or copy your existing Windows IrfanView folder to Mac. This is easier because the installer may need additional Windows DLLs to run."
