HTML files in IE (case 3119)

Hi, I'm having trouble with HTML files (used as text labels) for a MediaLab experiment. During the experiment, the HTML files will only show the text- no sound. The same thing (text but no sound) happens when the files are opened in just IE (i.e., IE independent of ML), but work just fine in other browsers (e.g., Chrome).

I'm using XP, and have updated IE. We've had a similar problem in the past: the files will play sound on some tablets but not others. My understanding is that ML uses IE as its browser- is there any way to change this or any plug-ins I might be missing? Any idea of what could be going on?

    Many thanks!

Hi abarger. Are you by any chance using the <audio> tag in your code to play the sound? If so, that could be the problem. The <audio> tag is new to html5, and although Chrome, FireFox, and IE9 all recognize, older versions of IE do not. Windows XP doesn't support IE9, so it's likely that you wouldn't be able to use the new code in that browser. I suspect MediaLab might be similarly incompatible with html5 at this time, so you might need to use an older bit of html to achieve your end.

What happens if you use the HTML code with MediaLab 2014.1.108? You can download a copy here and ask for a free 21-day trial license: http://www.empirisoft.com/Download.aspx?index=4.
