Multiple Response and SPSS name problems

I have a couple questions in my experiment that are multiple response. (ex. ethnicity, any illnesses? Check all that apply). I changed the variable name in SPSS and now it will not record data for those fields. In MediaLab, the ethnicity question is only one questions, but in SPSS ethnicity is split into multiple variables (ethn_01, etc). I know this is a result of the multiple response. However, How can I change either the SPSS or medialab file so that it will record the data?

Take a look at the Data FAQ in the user's guide. The gist though is that an SPSS .sav file does not like to be structurally modified after it has been defined the first time. This essentially means--delete the .sav file (actually the whole data folder) and let MediaLab create new data files that are fresh and compatible with your new experiment structure. You can then always merge the common and non-common variables together later with SPSS's merge tools.
