    Proceeding Back and Forth

I have scanned the DirectRT Manual and can't seem to find the proper coding to proceed back and forth through instruction screens. My research team wants the participant to be able to proceed forward (with specific button) and back (with specific button). No data will be written for this section of the study. This is only to make sure the participant fully understands the experiment before they begin.

    Thanks!

Backward skipping is a function that will be enabled at some point (soon) in the 2010 version. For now, repeated (identical) blocks of the instructions are really the only doable workaround. If, say, there are 4 screens of instructions, then those 4 screens can be repeated as many times as you like in the input file. Each response that corresponds to "back" for any given item can be given a skipto value to the "previous" instruction screen in the next repetition of the instructions. On the final instructions screen of each complete set, a skipto value can be assigned that skips the subject to the first actual trial so that any further repetitions of the instructions are never seen. Does that make sense?

    Here is the basic logic..

    trial
    1 instruction1, right goes to trial 2
2 instruction2, right goes to trial 3, left goes to trial 5
3 instruction3, right goes to trial 4, left goes to trial 6
4 instruction4, right goes to trial 100, left goes to trial 7
    5 instruction1, right goes to trial 6
6 instruction2, right goes to trial 7, left goes to trial 9
7 instruction3, right goes to trial 8, left goes to trial 10
8 instruction4, right goes to trial 100, left goes to trial 11
    9..
    10..
    11..
    12..
    100 real trials begin
