Random Failure to Display Input File

I'm using DirectRT v2006 in a lab that recently updated to Windows 7. When I try to run a file that I know works on a computer with Vista, it only works randomly. Sometimes the experiment starts and runs perfectly, but most of the time after I click "OK" for the subject identification screen the screen goes black until I press the SPACE bar. I also tried some of the samples provided by DirectRT and the same problem exists, so I know it's not with my file. I would be able to figure something out if it failed everytime or gave me an error message, but it works randomly. Does anyone have any experience with DirectRT v2006 and Windows 7?

    Further information

After further inspection, I found a hidden error message that was occurring whenever the screen went black. It is error message #6, and has to do with refresh rates.

It's very unusual to get any of the older versions of DirectRT to work on Vista and/or Windows 7. The exception seems to be in some rare cases where DirectRT was already installed on a machine that was upgraded to Vista (or possibly Windows 7). Officially, only DirectRT v2010 is considered compatible with either of these post-XP versions of Windows.
