    Pause an experiment once started

    Hi Trevor,
Is it possible to pause an experiment once it's started? Currently we use escape and re-launch the program in the middle (but this means we have to open the excel file to find the trial/line number for the new starting place). We work with preschoolers and often have to stop mid-program, which is a problem when items are randomized. It would be great to hit a "pause" button if one exists.

Hi Becky--as of v2008, neither DirectRT nor MediaLab have a pause/resume type of feature. This is a frequently requested option though and is on our to-do list for the next version. Until then, all I would suggest is exactly what you are doing--pressing ESC to end the session and then resuming by running the remaining trials. Note that if your random content is generated as a function of the RAND functions (see www.empirisoft.com/directrt/help/directrt_using_random_values.htm) then you could restart the session by running the remaining trials in the revised version that will be located in your experiment folder after the session--i.e., with all the random values retained for the next time you run it. -Blair
