Thread: Netbooks for MediaLab

    Netbooks for MediaLab

We have a new grant starting soon and we will have to carry 20-30 computers to different sites each time we assess subjects. We would like to purchase computers that are small and light.

Has anyone put ML on a netbook? If so, which one? How did it work? Do you have any suggestions as we look to purchase new computers?

    Thanks for the help.

    Great question.

Most netbooks should have no problem running any of the current copies of MediaLab that are available. Even the updated 2010 version of MediaLab should run without problem. The biggest thing to take into hand would be the number of applications you plan to run at once with MediaLab. If too many processes and threads are being run at any given time, then problems will arise - as netbooks can't offer anywhere near the same amount of power as other machines can.

MediaLab has been coded and designed to work as a solid product with just about any machine. We recommend that at least 256 MBs of RAM are present on the machine. We also recommend that at least 16 MBs of video memory are present on the machine. Most of the netbooks currently in production beat these requirements 4x over. We've tested MediaLab on a variety of machines, and have found that it will run solid even on machines that meet the bare requirements.

Let me know if this helps, and if you have any more questions.
