    Strange multiple response values

    Hello,

I created a multiple response item that asked people to "check the items that pertain to you...." I listed 7 response options, and left each label as "none". Participants were allowed to check more than one.
The parameters was equal to (p7); the write data button was checked, and the write as text button was checked. Everything else said "none".

I expected media lab to create separate variables for each (E.g. RIC_01; RIC_02; RIC_03....RIC_06; RIC_07), which it did. I also expected the values to either be 1 for yes (checked box) or 0 for no (when the box wasn't checked). However, when I ran frequencies for the seven items it showed that for each response option there were values from 1 to 7! I can't figure out where these numbers are coming from because all they could do was either check or not check each option.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hm - that doesn't sound quite right. As you noted, the values should either be '0' for unchecked, '1' for checked, and '99' for neither.

    - What version of MediaLab are you running?
    - Does this happen for any other scale responses?
    - Can you post your data or experiment?

I'm sure we can figure out what's happening here.
