I can see what Trevor is saying, but by "beneath", do you mean vertically beneath (e.g., the buttons are lower than the bottom of the image) or proximally beneath (e.g., the buttons are behind the image). If the former, then you can use the w parameter to nake the scale run horizontally and the t parameter to move it downward. e.g., (p7,w.8,t.7) to make a 7pt scale appear horizontally and to move it to 70% of the way from the top of the screen.
