    data file

    [edited by moderator]
I am building a stroop task and wanted to make my life easier by having a group name which will appear later on on the data file. For some reason, the group name doesn't match and I'm getting in each group name more than one name (we use an external sheet for names and the order of the names is the same for each participant: deceased, attachment, close and three unknowns which are supposed to be the same for all if i use $stroop^1 and so on no?). I'm attaching what i did and a short example of the data. I would really appreciate if you could take a look.
    Thanks
    Maya

What exactly are you trying to accomplish with the use of $stroop^1? Normally you would use the ^ symbol to refer to a particular item within a list when using the sequential item symbol "&". e.g., see & Sequential here:

that is the way we did it in my former lab
cause its takes the names from a list
and the role of the names in the list is the same for everyone

Take a look at that section in the users guide. See if it makes more sense to try it with the % symbol rather than the $ symbol, and then see if you still have the issue.

I guess what I'm not following is what you are trying to accomplish in terms of randomization. When you say that the order is supposed to be the same (deceased, attachment, close, unknown x 3) then why are you randomizing the order of your trials via the WGR column? I'm asking because when I run it, it seems like what I would expect given the content of your input file. Hmm.

i didnt mean the the order is the same
i meant that the order of the list (the external list is the same )
the first name is always the deceaced
the second is the attachment figure the third is the close and the other three are the unknown names
    hope i is clarify things
    thanks

Maya--let's simplify this as much as possible. I've attached an extremely reduced version of your sample. Can you run it and tell me if you see the same problem as the larger version.
