Hi,
Anything here in the $10 - $30 range should work nicely. These are all commodity products now:

A brief google search for 'windows 10 LPT port address' makes me think that Microsoft has recently, and badly, killed low-level LPT support under Windows 10. It may be simplest to roll back to...
Hi Trey,
DirectRT processes input to the system as quickly as they become available.
To overcome the typical delay and timing variances found in regular keyboards, we offer the DirectIN button...
We don't have a current list. Usually the recommendation is to visit newegg.com and buy something in the $15 - $30 range. In the past MediaLab had a hard time accessing add-on cards which had a...
Hi,
Can you send a sketch of how everything is connected right now? It looks like that you could send values on the D0 and D1 lines of the parallel port and be pretty close to in business. Those...
No, we don't currently have a hardware implementation for voice key. But as always, DirectRT can capture and time voice responses.
What specific goal are you trying to achieve?
John
Just curious - have you had any luck using the controller with your software?
Hi,
The Rotary Controller is designed to appear to your computer as a standard joystick, one with two pushbuttons and analog activity on the X-axis. So it's not surprising that you aren't seeing...
It's been a while, so forgive my ignorance. Does the -740 button box have the capability to send regular ASCII characters via a virtual COM port, or can it emulate a regular keyboard? If either is...
service@... comes right to my desk. I received your email last week as well.
And for the benefit of others, it's easy to move licenses between machines. No charge for staying with the originally...
Hi Kris,
We replied by email on Monday the 15th and again just now. Perhaps your spam filter got it by accident?
Let us know if you don't see the mail.

Hi ARL,
Thanks for taking a moment to share. It sounds like things are working properly now.
Just for future reference, would you mind posting the make / model number of your parallel port...
We replied via email on this one.
For reference, both MediaLab and DirectRT will work nicely on Macs which have BootCamp and then Windows installed.
MediaLab will also work in a virtual...
That's a great first step. Can you share your DirectRT file as well?
So just to confirm: Your single computer has TWO parallel ports installed. You can send data from one to the other, and the data is received (albeit, in manual mode). If that is true, it sounds...
The assignment of buttons, etc, is something that is done by the hardware manufacturer. Different vendors may 'name' their buttons (in the very specific language required by USB) different ways. ...
Hi,
The choice of a weighted base or suction cups is up to you. It would depend on how active your participants might be and where the hardware will rest. I suspect that a combination of both...
FYI this has been fixed in v2014 MediaLab. Contact us for a link to the newest build.

Tablets which are loaded with the Windows 8 Surface Pro OS will work nicely with DirectRT and MediaLab. Recently these have been selling for ~$800 each.
Unfortunately, the less expensive tablets...
Hi Matt,
Can you take a screenshot of the I/O control panel and post it here?
John
COM1 should be found at address (dec) 888. Databit D0 is found on DB25 pin #2, and ground is any of pins 18-25.
You need a resistor in this case, as the parallel port can't source more than a...
Thanks for the clarification. I'll check with tech support right now, but I *think* that DirectRT doesn't have access to DTR/RTS/the other flow control pins.
I don't suppose your machine has a...
Unfortunately, we've not released the source code or schematic diagrams for this system. However, we can ship you something complete, assembled and tested.
This box was designed to use any camera...
Hi -
Just curious... You know that the 'on/off' you're seeing is probably a very high speed flickering of the actual bits being transmitted, yes? Is there a current limiting resistor in place? ...
Using DirectRT v2008.3 should solve this problem. Grab a copy here: http://empirisoft.com/download_old.aspx
The system is something we've designed in-house.
The black box has two inputs - composite video and an RS232 (serial port) and one output (composite video).
Incoming video then can have...
We had a system a few years ago that was set up like this:
Computer (DirectRT) --serial port--> Black Box ----> Video Recorder
Video Camera--------------------------|
When a new screen or...
On the underside of your keyboard / button box is an adhesive label. If that label doesn't explicitly mention '...and contains firmware for easy updating' we'll need to perform a quick firmware...
Thanks - email has been sent. Let me know if you don't receive it.
John
Thanks, @tim, for your help.
John
Hi Becky,
Microsoft changed the way it handles keyboard-like peripherals in Windows 7. We do have replacement / upgrade firmware available. Sadly, it can only be installed here in our shop.

Hi Dori,
This has been fixed in v2012. Unfortunately, I don't believe there are any plans to back-port the changes to the older software versions.
Just to be curious, I'd suggest installing a...
To help get started with this, we'd need to know the make and model number of the blood pressure equipment you're working with. Can you point us toward a link for the product manual, etc?
John
and another 3 cents.
hey this is john's 2 cents!
Which version of v2012? There's a full version number in the 'help' menu...
Trial code sent. Do update us on your progress...
Hi! If you poke deeply in the PC's Device Manager control panel, you'll find the parallel port you're using. Click on it, then look through the tabs on the displayed window. What address is the...

We've tried very heard to ensure forward compatibility between versions. You shouldn't have any issues. However, we'd recommend a thorough test before scheduling expensive participants. :)
For those who can't receive .zip files in their email, here's a copy.
Send me an email (service @ empirisoft.com) and I'll send you back a utility for testing TTL ports above 32k.
Grab a copy of v2012 from our website... I believe this issue has been resolved.
Yes, a simple F-F adapter is all you need. Shouldn't cost more than $1 or so, unles you're shopping at Best Buy. :)
Any modern adapter should work. We've got a handful of these in the shop for general use & testing:

If memory serves, 'actuation point' merely means the distance a key must be pressed before the internal switch is activated. I'm not sure how 2mm compares to other available systems...
Hi Lisa,
Thanks for taking a moment to write. The keyboards you've mentioned seem nice, and the 'Cherry' switches they use have long been a durable industry standard.
A big difference...
Hi - DirectRT can easily interface with your PC's parallel port. This will give you control of at least 8 LEDs. Do be sure to properly current limit the outputs, as the parallel port is a bit...
You shouldn't have any major issues using DirectRT to trigger / communicate with the eyetracker system.

I'd refer you to this excellent overview:
