Added internal site license for London Business School (UK)
Fixed a fairly rare issue with thought listings. If greater than 13 thoughts were being listed and the questionnaire containing the item was being timed at the experiment level and a responses.xls file was being used and time ran out then the item wouldn't end properly--you'd go into a feedback/prompt loop or an error would be generated. This is fixed.
Added internal site license for University of Washington Business School.
Until now, when inserting a variable into subsequent question wording (e.g., Hello <name>, welcome to the experiment!>, the variable being used had to be all lowercase. From 2006.1.20 on, this is no longer a constraint--any combination of upper and lower will work.

Fixed spacebar conflict that could occur between MediaLab and HTML items using ASP or other script, or that use the POST or GET methods of data submission.

Added IP codes for Texas Christian University
Fixed case sensitivity problem when referencing variables in a custom html item.
Added IP licensing for Lancaster University, UK
Two minor tweaks re custom items. Some code will generate "%26" as the delimiter for posted data which is a fancy (hex value) way of saying "&" which is what MediaLab expects. MediaLab will now accept "%26" as well. Nobody is going to care about this but I'm saying it anyways.
Also, in cases where multiple values are passed through a post command, the variable names can simply be listed in any questionnaire as a custom item with no filename. MediaLab will automatically skip such items but will write the data from a posted variable to that item's spot in the data file.
Documentation on preparing custom items is almost ready--it's really easy now to create almost any kind of custom item.
Added departmental site licensing for University College Utrecht.
variables into question wording
enabled the inserting of variables into response options the same way you can insert them into question wording. e.g., if you have prior responses called "friend1" and "friend2" you could have response options later on like:

I would pick <friend1>
I would pick <friend2>
This will work to insert prior responses from fill-in-the-blank items, scale responses, multiple responses, and any response.xls variables you have calculated. These values can be inserted into the response options of any item that allows response options.
allow "+" to be contained in numeric responses
when using a numeric range on a fill in the blank (e.g., r-100-100), subjects would be scolded if they used a "+" symbol as the first character (e.g., +37), even though a "-" would be just fine. This is fixed and now "+" is ok.
Fixed a rounding error which would occur sometimes on timed trials that use the delay (D) parameter. Results in more accurate timing now.
Improved skip functionality. Instead of having to explicitly name the variable you want to skip to, you can simply enter +1, +2, +3, +n, etc. items. MediaLab will automatically skip that many items without needing to know the name of a "skipto" variable--it will simply resume wherever it ends up. This is especially nice when the item being skipped to might be randomly determined.
Fixed a bug in the WebTracker item type. If the subject clicks on a link or does anything else that causes web form data to be posted then the web tracking item will end and MediaLab will continue on to the next item. This is fixed.
added site licensing for Nanyang School of Business, Singapore
fixed bug where on custom HTML items, letter case of question wording was sometimes converted to all lower.
Modified custom items so that MediaLab variables can be quickly and easily substituted into any custom HTML page. For example, ml.varname will be replaced with the actual MediaLab variable name. ml.wording will be replaced with the contents of the question wording field. See example here: http://www.empirisoft.com/support/showthread.php?t=222
Includes all prior feature modifications and fixes up to 2006.1.35. Full package posted on main download page. Update posted below.
updated version number of MediaLab experiment editor to v2006 (from v2004). not of any functional consequence.
Added partial IP authentication for Ohio State Business School (Marketing).
Added IP site licensing for Purdue Department of Psychology
In the user guide, it says you can use skip patterns with scale responses but NOT with multiple response items. This has always been intentional because a subject could select multiple responses and MediaLab would not know which skip value to use.
There was a bug though (which we just found out about) which would allow you to use skip patterns with multiple response items if and only if the subject was using the keyboard (mouse would not work) and the option with the skip value was the last one chosen. Instead of eliminating this bug, it gave us the idea--why not allow skip patterns for multiple response items so long as only ONE response has been chosen.
So you can do this now--and it will work for both keyboard and mouse. To be super safe, you can combine this with the (r1-1) parameter in order to disallow multiple options from being selected, e.g., (p5,r1-1) for a 5-item multiple response question where one--and only one--option must be selected. That will consequently guarantee your skips to work.
Added site licensing for Indiana University, Kelley School of Business.
Added internal site licensing for University of Michigan, Department of Psychology / Institute for Social Research (ISR).
Added internal site licensing for Dept of Management and Marketing, University of Melbourne
Long (er) Variable Names. As of MediaLab v2006.1.10, the limit for variable names was increased from 7 to 12 characters. As of v2006.1.43, this was increased to 60 characters. Keep in mind though that some statistical packages and spreadsheet applications may still have difficulty working with longer variable names. Be sure to view and analyze some practice data before going too crazy with this feature.
Fixed a font problem that some users were having when trying to use non-English fonts in the Experiment Editor (e.g., not being able to use characters with accents). Reminder--you also need to set the character set under Preferences in the main MediaLab window in order for the Experiment Editor to also use that same set. If anyone is still having trouble with this, let us know.
