Can someone help me please. My study keep saying that <insert variable name>reads as string variable when it is a numeric variable. In the data set it reads as numeric, but in SPSS it comes up as string. These variables are scaled responses.

Check to see if the "write as text" box is checked for those items. If so, uncheck that box and MediaLab should write those scale response choices as numeric.

The write as text box is unchecked for all scaled responses. This started happen once I checked the reaction time box.
Did you start gathering data before you checked the reaction time box and are now adding reaction time data to an existing data file?

Yes. I did some pilot study for my experiments and decided that we needed to add reaction time to the study. It ran fine beforehand, but now it is messing up.
Try clearing out any existing files in the data folder (saving the ones you need in a different location, of course) and then running your study.
