IAT instructions and category backgrounds

Hi!

I am trying to create my own IAT using the scripts already provided in the Direct RT sample.

My questions are concerning the instructions and the backgrounds (which contain the different category labels on them as participants categorize stimuli) for the IAT. How do I create the instructions and backgrounds to be .bmp files, like in the sample? Were these created using some sort of paint program, and then saved as .bmps? Also, what in the input indicates that the background will be showing throughout the entire block? Do I have to tweak something with the display time?
