Greek characters in data file

In my experiment I use thought listing technique and participants write their thoughts in Greek. When trying to see the text they wrote, instead of Greek letters, weird characters appear. This happens to the SPSS, Excel and Notepad files. Is there anything I can do so as to read the answers?

It seems that Excel can have trouble reading and displaying characters from some international fonts. See their link on the subject here:

I tried looking at your data files and had the same problem. However, if I renamed the file from .csv to .htm, I could read the Greek characters in Internet Explorer.

So, knowing that the data [I]were[/I] in there, I googled "arial greek" and found this site where you can download the Greek Arial font that Microsoft mentions:

I've also attached them in a zip file. So I dropped them into the fonts folder via the [I]Windows Control Panel[/I] and then opened Excel. I selected the cells with Greek content, and selected "Format > Cells > Font" and chose the new Arial Greek font.

I don't know much Greek but it sure looked a lot better!
