Problems with rebooting computer and parallel ports related to DirectRT? (case 16661)

    Dear DirectRT support staff,

We have been experiencing several problems with a new Windows 7
computer that is currently running DirectRT and Medialab software.

    1. After setting up the computer and installing the DirectRT and
Medialab software, the computer failed to reboot properly. There were also problems with port functioning at this time. We are currently unable to reboot the computer successfully.

    2. Recently, DirectRT rapidly started advancing through several trials
without any input from the response boxes or keyboard. An "Error 6"
was displayed in the TrackPerformance.txt file.

    3. Also recently, a response box was plugged into one of the USB
ports, but was not working. Upon moving the response box to another
port, it worked successfully. The response box was initially working
in the port that failed, but we are unsure why the port suddenly
stopped registering. However, the port that failed is currently
    working.

*This issue previously occurred with a mouse plugged into a USB
port as well in the middle of an experiment. It began working again
    after a few hours. (weird)

    VERSION OF DIRECTRT: Version 2012.4.0.166
    VERSION OF DIRECTX: 11
    VERSION OF MEDIALAB: 12.4.133
VERSION OF WINDOWS: Windows 7 Enterprise, 64-bit
    COMPUTER: Dell OptiPlex 7010

    Thank you.

Can you please upload a copy of the TrackPerformance.txt file?

I have a few more questions:

    1) Could you please elaborate on what you mean by the computer not rebooting? Does the computer not turn off and on at all? Does it not revert back to a previous state before the installation of DirectRT and MediaLab?

    2) After looking at your TrackPerformance.txt file, the Overflow error only seemed to occur one time on Oct. 6 and then did not happen again for multiple uses of DirectRT afterwards. Were you using the same .csv input file all these times or different input files when the error occurred vs. not?

    3) The TrackPerformance.txt file also showed that the the Overflow error happened first for trial number 194, which sounds like it is not at the start of the input file you ran on Oct. 6? Is this trial at the start or the middle of the file that was run at that time? Please also feel free to upload a copy of that .csv input file and I'll be happy to look at it.

    1) The computer attempts to reboot but cannot launch Windows. This occurs even after multiple attempts to launch in safe mode. Diagnostics testing does not seem to come back with anything.

    2) The input files were exactly the same.

    3) The DirectRT files were working fine initially during the session, but then began rapidly skipping through trials on its own. You'll notice that in the csv file there are multiple entries of RT = 0, starting at trial 194.

Can you please send the actual .csv input file that created the 141a.csv file output you previously uploaded?

    Input file

    The input file is attached.

We've run this file at least 10 times since the crash with no problems.

So is there anything in particular that I can help with causing your problems right now?

    Hi Jason,

We are just trying to figure out if the problems we have been experiencing (i.e., port issues, DirectRT errors, rebooting problems) may be related to a problematic interaction between DirectRT (and/or Medialab) and Windows 7. Please see first post of this thread for specifics.

    Thank you.

There's nothing that we know in how DirectRT 2012.4.0.166 works with Windows 7 that should cause this kind of a problem. However, please do keep us updated if you experience this same or different problems and we will be happy to do what we can.

    Good luck with your studies!
