Recurring Error when trying to play an auditory stimulus (case 16270)

    Hello,

I am trying to play a long (67Mb) .wav file through DirectRT. The program runs normally until it encounters the .wav file, then it crashes and directs me to the following errors in the trackperformance file:

    Subject 1, 9/22/2014, 3:17:55 PM, v2012.4.147, Initial Display: 1366x768, 32-bit colour, 60hz or 16.67ms/screen
    Subject 1, 9/22/2014, 3:17:57 PM, v2012.4.147, Session Display: 1024x768, 16-bit colour, 60hz or 16.67ms/screen
Elapsed Time: 4694ms, block -1, trial 2, stim 3, Error 5, Invalid procedure call or argument--may be a problem loading a stimulus due to its format, on line 2370, during CreateSurfaces of Form DDFullScreen
Elapsed Time: 5678ms, block -1, trial 2, stim 2, Error 91, Object variable or With block variable not set, on line 530, during GoTrials of Form DDFullScreen
Elapsed Time: 52126ms, block -1, trial 2, stim 2, Error 5, Invalid procedure call or argument--may be a problem loading a stimulus due to its format, on line 2370, during CreateSurfaces of Form DDFullScreen
    Subject 1, 9/22/2014, 3:18:50 PM, Finished. 3 Errors/Warnings.

I have attached my csv file, but the .wav file is too large to upload.

The .wav file is in a folder titled stim which is located in the same folder as my csv file.

Is there a size limit to stimuli that can be presented in DirectRT?

    Thank you!

    Milo

Does your .wav file play in Windows Media Player? If so, try using _ instead of ! in your .csv input file.

The .wav file does play in Windows Media Player. I changed the ! to _ and received this new error:

Elapsed Time: 5230ms, block -1, trial 2, stim 2, Error 445, Object doesn't support this action, on line 640, during GoTrials of Form DDFullScreen

Thank you for your continued help!

Problem solved. It looks like the issue was somehow connected with using Audacity as our sound editing program to create the file. We re-exported the file using Praat, switched the input file back from _ to ! and were successful.

    Thank you for your help!

I'm glad that you got DirectRT to work, but it's interesting that a file that you created or edited in Audacity wasn't working with DirectRT. What is the full version number (i.e., 20xx.x.xxx) of your copy of DirectRT? You can find it by opening DirectRT and selecting Help>About DirectRT from the main menu bar.

I tried running the program on two separate computers with different versions. The versions we were using were 2012.4.0.147 and 2012.4.0.157. I am not 100% sure that the problem was Audacity based, but the original .wav file came from Audacity and the problem was fixed by exporting from Praat, so that was my assumption, but I was not the one who created the original file and it could be that something strange ended up in the settings when the file was created.
