    MediaLab Version 2014

First public release of MediaLab v2014 (v2014.1.103), posted Feb 18, 2104.

Changes, updates and bug fixes included in v2014 are documented here.

As we continue to update v2014, all licensed users will have free access to the new releases (as well as any earlier versions). Announcement of new releases, feature additions, bug fixes and other updates will be regularly posted here.

Most of the changes in v2014 reflect our efforts to maintain MediaLab's compatibility with the newest versions of Windows (Vista, 7, 8) while maintaining compatibility with earlier versions such as XP.

Some other specific changes of note:

In keeping with v2012, IP-base licensing no longer requires the user to deal with dll files. When departmental, school and campus wide site licenses are purchased. we are now hard coding the IP ranges into the software so that the user-experience is seamless, quick and easy.

    • The "ranking" item type can now draw from previous responses to other questions for its stimuli. For example, thoughts from a prior thought-listing called "tl1" could be ranked on some dimension by entering <tl1_01>, <tl1_02>, <tl1_03>, etc., into the labels for the ranking item. The procedure follows from other item types (e.g., scale items) that have long been able to use prior responses as stimuli using the <...> syntax.

    MediaLab Version 2014.1.108, Posted Mar 31, 2014

    • MediaLab has always used the Internet Explorer browser engine for displaying local and web-based browser content. Until now, the engine was required to run using compatibility with Internet Explorer Version 7. This had started to become a limitation as newer versions of IE were released. MediaLab v2014.1.108 (and later) is now able to render local and web-based content in a manner compatible with whatever version of Internet Explorer is installed on the machine. MediaLab now creates a registry entry that defines the level of desired IE compatibility (typically, IE9). This is done automatically for you when v2014 is installed. You can also manually edit to force compatibility with any major version of Internet Explorer (e.g., 8, 11, etc., ask us how).
