Responses missing from output (case 12271)

    Hello,

I am trying to run a DirectRT file (v2008.2.103.1115) where a number appears for 313ms, followed by a mask for 1126ms. Participants must press the spacebar when any number except 3 shows up; for 3 they must withhold a response. I need to record the RT of the response (if any) if it occurs at any point during either the 313ms or the 1126ms, so I set up two separate points that an RT can be taken.

I created two styles (10 and 11 in the attached .drt file) to do this, but when I look at the output file, any stimulus for which a response was withheld is missing from the file, instead of "no response" being logged.

I'm sure I've probably just omitted or misprogrammed something silly, so any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated! I've attached the input file, styles and some of the .bmp images. I'll post the others in a reply as I can only include 5 attachments here.

    Many thanks,
    Sandra

Does the data not appear correctly in the log folder?

Responses missing from output (case 12271)

    Hi Jason,

No, they don't. If a response is made during presentation of the number or the mask, it's recorded. However, if no response is made, then the trial is just missing. I've attached a file and a log file here. I did not respond during trial 5 and 6 and as such they are missing.

Try changing the names of your stimuli .bmp files from numbers to alphanumeric characters; I renamed all the files to the actual word for the number (e.g., 11.bmp became eleven.bmp). When I did that, I managed to have all of the stimuli show up in the log file (see attached).

Just tried that there, still no luck (attached). I noticed one thing in the log file you sent me- while "no response" is being recorded for some of them, some trials (7 and 8) are missing, which is similar to what's happening to me.

In your study, did you want the stimuli-the number and/or the masking-to disappear with a keypress or when its presentation time expired? Or were you attempting to keep the stimuli onscreen for a fixed response window regardless of when a keypress occurred?
