Timed essay with additional instructions (case 8714)

    Hello,
I have an essay that participants need to respond to for 5 min. After 3 min I need additional instructions to appear and then participants be able to go back to what they were writing in the essay. After the 5 minutes is over the next screen should automatically appear. A timer indicating how much time is left on the task would also be nice, but not necessary for the study. Is there a way to do this on MediaLab?

    Hi amitche2!

Unfortunately, MediaLab currently does not allow for people to start an essay response and later go back to add more to what they had written. Once a response to an essay item has begun, anything that a person wants to add must be done before leaving that essay item. You can give people as much time to respond to an essay item by using the duration parameter; see the Questionnaire Files > Parameters section of the MediaLab manual for more information on this feature.
