How do I clear a stimulus while still allowing time for a response? (case 487)

I'm creating an 2-back task in DirectRT but I'm having some trouble figuring out some timing issues. What I'd like to do is have a stimulus presented on the screen for 500 ms, and clear the stimulus but allow an add'l 2500 ms for response time (3000 ms total response window).

I've figured out a way to do this, but I'm hoping there's a better way. Specifically, for each trial, I have two stimulus commands. First, I'm presenting a letter with a fixed response window of 500ms (using min/max style feature and the "full" code). Second, I present nothing with a fixed response window of 2500 ms (again using min/max style feature and the "full" code). This is okay, but I think the data will require some manipulation (i.e., I think I'll have to figure out whether the response occurred during the first or second part of the trial, and adjust accordingly). Is there some other way to do this that allows for the use of the "clear" and "full" commands for the same stimulus?

Please let me know if you have any tips on how to do this more effectively. Thanks!

Any chance you could attach both the csv file and the style file you are using? I tried simulating the session from the code in a prior email, but the text lost its formatting in the cut and paste I think. I did notice that you were using a -1 in the RT. Safe to assume you are using a min-max value in the style (.drt) file in your session folder?

My first thought (without seeing the .drt style file) is that you could use just the single stimulus (e.g., ~N) while using a style for that has a min-max value of "0-3000!"

The "!" would have DirectRT automatically continue after 3000ms from stimulus onset. Next, if you indicate your TIME column value as:

    RT:49,46,clear500,full

Then the screen ought to clear after 500ms while continuing to monitor the RT (which again will finish and proceed to the next triial after 3000ms if a response is not received).

You can use the -1 (i.e., no response) as a valid key code but 1) I don't think you would need it if you use the 0-3000! min max value in your style file--you would know if they didn't respond if they have RTs of ~3000ms. And, 2) there's a potential timing problem described below.

I hope that helps. If not, here is a more confusing potential issue. Avoid even thinking about it unless the above doesn't help. And if that's the case, then again feel free to post the actual csv and drt files and I'll take a look at them.

    ____________

    A potentially relevant addendum:

The -1 and the full command could possibly result in a timing conflict because "full" indicates the trial must end at 3000ms, yet -1 indicates that 3001 ms would normally pass in order to know that a response did/didn't occur at 3000ms. Normally, I would suggest avoid trying to use full and -1 at the same time.

    still having timing issues

Hi there, I have tried the suggestions above but am still having some problems. Using the clear500 and full commands will clear the stimulus after 500 seconds, but does not auto advance after the full 3000ms requested in the style (3000!) -- the program appears to be waiting for a response before advancing to the next trial. I've attached the csv and style file here for you to review. Please let me know if you can figure out a way to present the stimulus for 500ms while allowing a subsequent 2500ms window with nothing presented during which participants can still respond. Thank you!

What happens if you use the same positive nonzero integer in your block column for the trials where you have -1?

I have endeavored the proposition above but am up 'til now having a number of issues. Making use of the indeniable 5 hundred and whole bearings will clear the update following 5 hundred seconds but does not auto boost after the entire three thousand https://arynews.tv/en/wwe-wrestler-r...-without-mask/ (ms) requested within the style the application emits an affect of being protecting matters below manage for a response earlier than advancing to the accompanying starter. I've joined the csv and kind record proper here so that you can evaluation.
