Skip to after timing out without dialogue box (case 16523)

    Hello,

We have a survey where a series of images needs to be displayed for exactly the same amount of time for every participant (we're syncing the time with other data being collected outside of Medialab, so the total time elapsed for the study needs to be the same), but they also are given the opportunity to rate each image with a scale response. Whether or not they respond, we need to move on to the next item when the current one times out, but right now Medialab keeps popping up a dialogue box informing participants that time on that item has expired. This throws off the time syncing. Can I make it so the dialogue box doesn't appear at all, and it just goes right to the next item?

    This topic seems related:

but I don't quite understand the solution there.

This is all on v2008.1.33, Windows XP and Vista.

    Thanks,
    David

I am also wondering if there is a solution for this problem as there does not appear to be a response to this post. This is also affecting my data collection. I am using v2014 on Windows 7.

You can suppress a message from popping up using the subsitute.txt file function of MediaLab described here: http://www.empirisoft.com/medialab/h...prefs_messages. To suppress the message, simply find the message you want to suppress in the messages.txt file, copy the entire line from the messages.txt file into a new text file, remove the words from between the quotation marks, and save the new file as one named substitute.txt in the Styles folder with the messages.txt folder. You can suppress as many messages as you want in a single substitute.txt file.
