Does computer need SPSS in order to run Medialab?

We are currently running Medialab experiments on 4 computers and then transferring the data folder onto another computer to copy and paste data from the SPSS files into a master datafile.

SPSS is costly to install, especially when we are not using it on the 4 experiment computers. However, we aren't sure if Medialab will run properly if SPSS is not installed. Can you confirm whether SPSS is needed?

    Thanks,
    Laura

Neither SPSS nor Excel are needed on any machine. The .sav, .csv, .sps and .txt files (and other data formats in some circumstances such as .xls and .mdb) will be generated regardless. In the case you describe, you would just need to transport the data to a machine that can open and analyze the file(s) of interest. So, bottom line, no you do not need SPSS on these machines--MediaLab can generate the data files without it. Hope that helps. -Blair
