I have been using MediaLab v2006 to run an experiment using autostart.txt files (6 conditions). Today, I edited the autostart files so that certain conditions would be run for the next few subjects. We are running subjects on 3 different machines, and I hand-edited each file on each machine separately. Something went very wrong -- on all 3 machines.

Here's an example from one of the machines.
Before running 2 subjects, the file looked about like this:
30417,5*
30419,1*
30420,2*

30423,5
30424,6

30425,1
30426,2
30421,3
30422,4
30427,3
30428,4
30429,5
30430,6
30418,6

After running the subjects, it looked like this:
30417,5*
30419,1*
30420,2*
5,30424*
30425,1*
30426,2*
30421,3
30422,4
3,30428
4,30429
5,30430
30418,6

The conditions I had wanted to run (5,6) were not run; they were skipped/deleted, and conditions 1 & 2 were run instead. As you can see, the list in the file got pretty chewed up. The only thing I can guess is that somehow the empty lines screwed things up -- have you seen this happen before? I have run many experiments using MediaLab, and have often edited the autotext files, but I've never run into this before. (I believe I have left in empty lines in the past -- but maybe not more than one.)

Do you think it's the empty lines causing the problem? I just want to
make sure it doesn't happen in the future!!
Thank you for any info you can provide,
Julie
