Recording keyboard responses while looking at images (case 29623)

    Hi,

I am running a study in which I am creating a fake dating website. Participants will look at fake profiles of people (which I planned on creating using powerpoint), and then will be asked to click a key on the keyboard to indicate if they would be interested in learning more about the presented person or if they would not be interested in learning more about the presented person. Is there a way for their responses to be recorded, as well as change the page to the next profile? So, once they press a key to indicate their interest, their response will be recorded and then a new profile will appear. I am using MediaLab v. 2014.

    Thank you!

If you are using html code to build the website, consider using a Custom Item type that would also allow you to program the ability for certain responses to become recorded in the MediaLab data files.

You can find information about the Custom Item type here in the MediaLab manual:

Thank you for your response, Jason.

Actually, I planned on creating a fake website using Powerpoint. So, it would look like a real website, but I would not be creating a real website or using html code to build a website. I believe I am able to include powerpoint presentations within the experiment through MediaLab. So is there an option for responses to be recorded as the participant is navigating through the powerpoint?

    Thank you.

If you are able to save your Powerpoint files as some version that is compatible with use in the Microsoft Explorer browser, you could try using the Web Tracker item type that would allow for MediaLab to record the links that participants click while viewing the files. Otherwise, my earlier recommendation of use of the Custom item is the best best for you to use html code to present Powerpoint files while also defining specific responses for participants to click on options as well as advance to different slides.
