Post Saving calculated variables from responses.xls in data files?

    [edited from support email]

How can my sum-variables from my responses.xls file be written to my .txt or .sav data files?

Yes, in v2008 (and maybe later versions of v2006?) you can do this by adding a custom item to your questionnaire. Create a new item and then in the "Item Type" column, select "Custom Item". In the "Name" column, enter the name of any calculated variable from your responses.xls file. Do not enter anything in the "Question Wording/File" or "Filename" fields. That ought to do it. Let me know if you have any trouble with it.
