Asking questions about the top 3 ranked items after rankings made (case 22663)
I would like to construct a ranking question where participants have to rank 12 items in terms of which ones they would want to purchase. After this ranking question I would like to ask them a series of questions about their top 3 items. I would like the top 3 items they selected in that question to appear in the subsequent questions. For example suppose they rank their top choices as:
1. Electronics
2. Vacation
3. Grooming products
4. item
5. item
6. item
7. item
..
12. item
I then want a series of questions to appear for the top three choices:
"you selected Electronics" as your top choice. Please answer the following questions about that item"
I was wondering if there was a way to program a ranking questions so that it "remembers" the top 3 items so that they can reappear after rankings have been made.
I was thinking if this wasn't possible I was going to create a multiple choice question that asks them to select their top choice and utilize the skip function to ask questions about each item. However the problem is that I would ideally like them to do the ranking task first.
From reading the threads it looks like it might be possible with the advanced features of responses.xls could please help me with the programming?
Thanks!

Solution for displaying top two items of 12 items ranked in subsequent questions
Hello all,
The code that previous posters have posted only works for a limited number of ranked items. If you have 12 items that participants rank and then If you would like to display the top one and two items that people ranked in a ranking question later on in the experiment you would need to come up with a different excel code. What you can do is label the top item something like "highest" and the second item as "second". I have created an excel sheet with code for the items I had participants rank. You can change the items by replacing the items I have in the quotations.
Then simply insert <highest> or <second> in subsequent questions you would like to display the highest item or second item.
