My study needs to display a series of images on the screen and it runs well on my computer that installs the latest version of DirectRT. However when it is run on the lab computers that install the older version (2008.1.0.11), no images show up and instead the file name of these images are presented on the screen (e.g., chninstruct1ame.bmp).
The images are all in the form of .bmp and located in the folder called "stim". I also make sure that the styles file is updated.

It may be worth re-saving your stimuli to see if the problem is arising due to an alpha layer being present within the bitmaps. If the bitmaps contain an alpha layer, they will not properly render in DirectRT.
Yes that solves the problem. I initially saved the images as .jpg and when it doesn't work for the old version of DirectRT I just changed the extension to .bmp (which is faster, or I thought). Turns out I have to resave the image to .bmp to make it work.

Yes - the reason for this is because the file is encoded as a collection of data. The data is read by a tool that can interpret the format.
.JPG data is encoded in a much different manner than .BMP data.
