Software Licensing
Overview Each computer, whether used for
designing experiments or running studies, will need the full version
of the software installed. This can be done by one person one license at a
time, or by a whole company purchasing unlimited use for everyone. We
don't require any kind of subscription, maintenance, or support fees.
Also, when you purchase licenses for MediaLab or DirectRT (e.g.,
v2006, v2008, v2010), you can use the version you purchase for as long as
you like. New versions come out every two years in the fall and
you will always have the option to upgrade at a much discounted rate.

If you have your own
lab and are looking to use MediaLab and/or DirectRT on a
fixed number of machines, then a basic license may
be more approriate than a site license (below). In cases where a smaller number
of computers are involved, you can purchase a "basic license"
for your lab and then pay a smaller fee for each additional
computer on which you want to load the software. For example, say you
have 9 computers (2 office, 2 control room, and 5 lab machines). In such
a case you could purchase a basic license and 8
additional licenses. You may add additional licenses at any time in the
future and may move the licenses to other machines if the situation requires
it. Licenses for home computers, laptops, or employees in your lab are also
available at the lower "additional license" rate.

A small business site-license allows
you to access up to 25 licenses wherever you need them in your department. A
small business site-license offers all of the benefits of a
full organizational site-license (below) but is simply limited to 25 machines. One individual
from your business should be identified as the licensee and primary
support contact. Holders of a basic license with 10 or more
machines will qualify for the upgrade rate. Multiple basic
license holders within a single business can merge their
accounts for this purpose.

Organizational site licenses offer unlimited use of the software for everyone
in your business. It's easier for our customers at large companies
because we can offer IP-based authorization. Your company's IP
patterns (e.g., 123.123.123.*) can be hard coded directly into the
software--consequently, no special codes are required and anyone on your local network can
just download and use the software on any machine. Multiple IP
patterns and manual authorization codes can be accomodated. One individual
from your group should be identified as the licensee
and primary support contact. Holders of any site license or basic
license with 20 or more machines will qualify for the upgrade
rate. Multiple basic license holders within a single
business can merge their accounts for this purpose.

A multi-site license offers
unlimited use of the software for a business
across multiple locations across the country or around the world. In
situations where three or more cities would be involved, a multi-site unlimited
use solution will be the most affordable. Details of the license are the
same as for Organizational site liceses (see above). Multi-site licenses also qualify
for IP-based software authorization. This means that everyone in your
business who is at a pre-authorized
location will be able to just download and use the software any
time. Companies holding two or more organizational site licenses for earlier
versions will qualify for the upgrade rate.
