Digital Analog Slider with Buttons

A few months after we posted photos of our original Precision Analogue Scale Device, several different researchers requested that we modify it to work nicely with DirectRT and MediaLab.

We added a some pushbuttons (because everyone needs pushbuttons, right?) and designed some circuitry which communicates with your computer's serial port. The circuitry takes a 'snapshot' of the fader's position at whatever interval you request, up to 10 times per second. You can specify when the box should begin and end recording data, and if you'd like to capture a dozen different 30 second 'sessions' over the course of an experiment, that's OK. MediaLab and DirectRT create a separate text file which logs the data output. The data file is tab-delimited, so it's easy to analyze in excel or SPSS.

Here's some sample output:

Interval set to = 0.1 second increments.
00:00.1 P = 16
00:00.2 P = 16
00:00.3 P = 16
00:00.4 P = 16
00:00.5 P = 16
00:00.6 P = 16
00:00.7 P = 16
00:00.8 P = 16
00:00.9 P = 16
00:01.0 P = 23
00:01.1 P = 33
00:01.2 P = 46
00:01.3 P = 60
00:01.4 P = 72
00:01.5 P = 80
00:01.6 P = 88
00:01.7 P = 96
00:01.8 P = 99
00:01.9 P = 99
Stopped

The unit connects to the computer via a 10' power and data cable. Variations on this theme are always available, so please contact us if you need anything at all.
