The Pressure Box

The Pressure Box

These researchers wanted to record not only the time of various button presses, but the force with which the buttons were being pressed. Think of the difference between gently pressing a car's brake pedal or slamming it to avoid an accident. The pressure box contains four standard industrial strength pushbuttons, and one *giant* button which measures almost 4" in diameter. The giant button is mounted such that an internal load cell measures the force applied during the button-down event. A series of data points are collected from the load cell in the 1 second following a keypress, and these datapoints are then delivered to MediaLab or DirectRT and stored in a separate text file.
