Software Licensing
Overview Each computer, whether used for
designing experiments or running studies, will need the full version of the software installed. This can
be done by a single faculty member purchasing one license at a time, or by
a whole campus or department purchasing unlimited use for everyone. We
don't require any kind of subscription, maintenance, or support fees.
Also, when you purchase licenses for MediaLab or DirectRT (e.g.,
v2006, v2008, v2010), you can use the version you purchase for as long as
you like as well as prior versions. New versions come out every two years in the fall and
you will always have the option to upgrade at a much discounted rate.

Questions (FAQ)
Pricing Philosophy Our highest pricing priority is ensure that
our products remain affordable for all academic and other non-profit
researchers. The bottom line is that we want every researcher in the world
to be able to use our software and hardware if it would be useful to
do so. If you qualify for the non-profit discounts and, despite our
prices, our software and hardware is still cost-prohibitive, let us know
and we'll work something out with you. Of course, software and hardware
development does cost money! So if your lab has alot of funding, please
feel free to contribute any amount beyond the minimum. Any extra funds
will go directly to the development of top quality research software. In
fact, let us know if you're intersted in helping to fund specific features
that your lab and others would find useful.

If you have your own lab
and are looking to use MediaLab and/or DirectRT on a fixed
number of machines, then a basic license may be more approriate
than a site license (below). In cases where a smaller number of
computers are involved, you can purchase a "basic license" for
your lab and then pay a smaller fee for each additional computer
on which you want to load the software. For example, say you have 9
computers (2 office, 2 control room, and 5 lab machines). In such a
case you could purchase a basic license and 8 additional
licenses. You may add additional licenses at any time in the future
and may move the licenses to other machines if the situation requires it.
Licenses for your home computer, laptop, or students in your lab are also
available at the lower "additional license" rate.

A small group site-license
allows you to access up to 25 licenses wherever you need them in your
department. A small group site-license offers all of the benefits of
a regular site-license (below) but is simply limited to 25 machines. One
researcher from your group should be identified as the licensee and
primary support contact. Holders of a basic license with 10
or more machines will qualify for the upgrade rate. Multiple
basic license holders within a single department can merge their
accounts for this purpose.

Departmental site licenses
offer unlimited use of the software for everyone in your area. It's easier
for our customers at large universities because we can offer IP-based
authorization. Your department's IP patterns (e.g., 123.123.123.*) can be
hard coded directly into the software--consequently, no special codes are
required and anyone in your department can just download and use the
software on any machine connected to your network. Multiple IP patterns
and manual authorization codes can be accomodated. One researcher
from your group should be identified as the licensee
and primary support contact. Holders of any site license or basic
license with 20 or more machines will qualify for the upgrade
rate. Multiple basic license holders within a single
department can merge their accounts for this purpose.

A campus wide site license
offers unlimited use of the software for an entire university. In
situations where three or more departments would like unlimited use then
the Campus Wide solution will be the most affordable. Details of the
license are the same as for Departmental site liceses (see above).
Campus site licenses also qualify for IP-based software
authorization. This means that everyone on your campus
network can just download and use the software any time. Universities
holding two or more departmental site licenses for earlier
versions will qualify for the upgrade rate.
